01:15 | dung | I thought KMS is only possible with DRI drivers |
01:17 | dung | It's under DRI and disables their FB driver counterparts |
02:49 | dung | dv505, do the Debian gtk images not work? |
02:52 | dung | they should display over hdmi, if booted with dovefb in kernel and video bootarg |
02:52 | dung | has anybody tried that? |
07:07 | jnettlet | dung, technically KMS drivers have to implement DRI2. They can use an existing framebuffer driver, however due to the different IOCTL controls and style of coding of most framebuffer drivers this is not really feasible. |
14:03 | xxfog | hey folks.. |
14:12 | jnettlet | I think folks may be a little generous, pretty quiet here so far today |
14:13 | xxfog | like in the forum ;) |
14:16 | dv505 | hi xxfog. It's not that bad, is it? |
14:17 | dv505 | to understand, the LED on the front of the cubox is on, so it's not completely dead? |
14:19 | xxfog | dv505: it is just dimmed and focusses as a really really small dot. Normally it is bright and bigger when the cubox was working correct |
14:19 | xxfog | sorry for my bad english |
14:20 | dv505 | no problem. so it was working before. do you know what changed? any upgrades, or boot commands changed? |
14:21 | jnettlet | could possibly be a bad power supply as well |
14:23 | xxfog | I used the new installer (i wrote that in two other topics in the forum) and tried to install geexbox (with the new uboot). Than i got several error while updating, the download did stop and nothing happend anymore. |
14:24 | dv505 | what is your current status? Your message at http://www.solid-run.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=839#p4926 is a bit different from the one at http://www.solid-run.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=853#p4893 |
14:24 | xxfog | Than I added just hdmi, sdcard and power and the LED was dimmed. When I plugged in USB-stick also, the LED on the stick and the led on the cubox worked again and serial console showed output with the new uboot version numer sr1 |
14:24 | xxfog | I plugged off everything took the box and cables withme to my work, because I wanted to do the update here again, when i plugged in all cables nothing (than the dimmed LED) appears |
14:26 | xxfog | the current status is: nothing happens and it does not metter if i plug in a sd, lan, hdmi, usb or whatever... In every case the LED just is small dotted and dimmed. like there is not enaugh voltage or something on the board has not enaugh power. |
14:27 | xxfog | uboot does not work and no output via console is done.. no metter if i use windows putty or linux .. just a dead cubox with a really small iluminating LED (like terminator when he dies) ;-) |
14:28 | xxfog | http://www.solid-run.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=853#p4893 is where i was on sunday evening and the other post is where i was when I plugged in the power cable next day :-( |
14:28 | dv505 | like jnettlet, I would suggest to try a different power adapter. maybe that one broken |
14:28 | dv505 | happened to me as well. I ended up buying a new one |
14:29 | jnettlet | yeah, you may be getting the light led glow due to enough power being backloaded into the circuit by the hdmi port. |
14:37 | dung | also, after kernel upgrade linux supports led dimming |
14:40 | xxfog | jnettlet: even if i just put in the power cable (without the hdmi plugged in) it is dimmed. Could it happen that hdmi power and the normal power cable circuit and damaged the power adapter? |
14:41 | xxfog | dung: therefor an output via serial should appear and that doesnt |
14:41 | xxfog | I am goin to get a voltmeeter (will take some minutes) than I am back.. |
14:41 | jnettlet | xxfog, nope shouldn't cause a problem. |
14:42 | jnettlet | good call |
14:47 | xxfog | 5,25V :-( |
14:48 | xxfog | thats what it should have I guess. |
14:49 | xxfog | If the power adapter would be broken, I guess the green LED on it would naither run |
14:52 | xxfog | So I am were I was before :-( and in my eyes it still looks like broken cubox |
14:55 | xxfog | I really like the cubox even when I was able to install geexbox on it it was perfect to fit my wishes. But the problem is: I waited serveral month to get it, than I had to pay nearly 40 US$ to get it from the German Zoll and now it may be broken and for buying a new one (what maybe solves my problem) it is just to expensive :-( |
14:58 | xxfog | What is the right procedere to reset the box? hold button and plugin power than or have the box powered on and just press it while box is running? Has the sd card and all other cables to be unplugged or plugged while resetting ? |
15:00 | dv505 | maybe you could try the XBMC april 9 installer? That one will install U-Boot (now an older version), format an SD card, partition it, and install a distribution on it |
15:00 | dv505 | might be a way to get back to a previous state |
15:00 | dv505 | not sure if you can downgrade U-boot with that |
15:05 | xxfog | hmm how should I "control" the installer if there happends nothing in the console and If the USBstick does not work (if it would work the LED on the stick should light up like before, bit that does not happen anymore) |
15:06 | xxfog | rabeeh: I guess you could tell me what could be the "message" which belongs to the scenery of a dimmed LED on the cubox and no output in console (serial) |
15:08 | xxfog | dv505: even if I put back the original SD card (which has become NO CHANGE) the effect is the same: nothing happens |
15:13 | dv505 | but maybe there is something wrong with the bootloader, therefore I suggested the april9 installer |
15:19 | dv505 | I think the procedure is to unplug the power cable, hold the reset button, and they connect the power cable, whilst holder the reset |
15:20 | dv505 | holder->holding |
15:20 | xxfog | okay dv505 that it one of the methods i tried to use the reset button without success I think. |
15:21 | xxfog | Does the april9 loader need interaction via serial console? Than it can not work because the console shows nothing |
15:23 | dv505 | no, you do not need the console for that. I can be completely automatic. just leave it for 10min, until the light starts flashing |
15:28 | xxfog | do i have to unzip the file using linux? Or can I unzip and copy it on the fat32 usb-stick in windows too? |
15:29 | dv505 | windows should be okay. you can format the usb stick as fat32 |
15:29 | dv505 | just make sure to keep all the folders, including the top boot folder |
15:30 | dv505 | see http://www.solid-run.com/mw/index.php/XBMC_April-9_Installer, although the connect to console it not really needed |
15:35 | dung | after reset, flash over serial! |
15:37 | dung | when u-boot is bricked, you can't load anymore e.g. april9 installer |
15:41 | dv505 | maybe try http://www.solid-run.com/mw/index.php/Flashing_U-Boot#MS_Windows then? |
15:41 | dung | yep :) |
15:44 | xxfog | cubox-xbmc-instaler-snapshot-090412-patch1.zip is what i downloaded now and put it on my 32gb stick right now. hope that the 32gb size does not make problems? |
15:45 | xxfog | there is just one folder (when i unpack it) and I put this folder as it is on the stick keeping filesstrucure as it is |
15:48 | xxfog | so in the root of the stick there is now the folder "boot" with the content inside |
15:49 | xxfog | do I have to leave my micro sd inside ? |
15:49 | xxfog | if so: has this sd to be unformatted ? |
15:50 | xxfog | or can the "old" partitions be on it because the installer wipes it in every case? |
15:52 | dv505 | from what I remember (and the wiki), the SD card will be erased |
15:52 | dv505 | it will also repartition |
15:54 | xxfog | okay, LAN, USBSTICK, sdcard, serial and powercord plugged in right now. the front LED is still just dimmed. the lan led flashes in high speed. |
15:54 | xxfog | time to get coffee ;) |
15:55 | xxfog | what still makes me not feel really good is, that the LED of my usbstick does not light up at all, seems that no data reading from stick |
15:56 | dv505 | yeah, strange. if nothing works, try flashing over serial like dung suggested |
15:56 | dv505 | but I never done that, so can't really help you with that |
16:01 | xxfog | thank your for your help and the tipps you gave me right now.. |
16:02 | xxfog | i wait 3 more minutes if nothing changes than i try the other method. terraterm is installed and the bin file on my harddisk already |
16:13 | xxfog | so dv505 and dung I did it via terraterm right now. The upload of the file started as mentioned in the wiki |
16:13 | xxfog | direktly after the upload endet i pressed enter (serveral times) in the terminal window bit it is still the same. nothing appears in the terminal window |
16:14 | xxfog | some of the basics (serial link and file upload) seems to work, but thats it. the uboot does not boot anymore |
16:16 | xxfog | Wooooooow! Wait ;-) |
16:18 | xxfog | I unplugged power, reinsterted the usb stick and the lan cable, and powered it back again, now the LED in FRONT is light up really like it should be, the LED of the stick is light up and blinking several times like "data-reading" and the console shows me some output! |
16:19 | xxfog | Loading file "/boot.scr" from usb device 0:1 usbda1 Failed to mount ext2 filesystem... ** Bad ext4 partition or disk - usb 0:1 ** ===> Executing ext4load usb 1:1 0x02000000 /boot.scr ** Bad partition 1 ** ===> Executing fatload usb 0:1 0x02000000 /boot.scr reading /boot.scr . ** Unable to read "/boot.scr" from usb 0:1 ** ===> Executing fatload usb 1:1 0x02000000 /boot.scr ** Can't read from device 1 ** |
16:22 | dv505 | great, now at least U-boot is back to normal. try unpacking something like geexbox to the card and try to boot |
16:22 | dv505 | maybe best to partition and unpack on another computer, so you don't touch u-boot again |
16:27 | xxfog | dv505: something that i want to know for sure now, because there are different files which say diffenrent things: |
16:28 | xxfog | has the boot partition to be ext2 or ext4 now (because of the ext4 support of the new uboot and has it to be set to 100 or 200MByte now? |
16:29 | xxfog | I think I have to use 200MB ext2 with bootflag as partitions 1 and the rest as a ext4 right? |
16:30 | dv505 | the new uboot support ext2,3,4, the old one only ext2,3. so using ext2 as boot partition is safe |
16:30 | dv505 | size does not really matter. in a default setup, the files on the boot partition are only a few MB |
16:31 | dv505 | but it's more the case if you develop and want to have multiple kernels. then a larger boot partition is an advantage |
16:31 | dv505 | but to be safe, ext2 200mb, rest ext4 is okay |
16:36 | xxfog | where is the "like" button? ;-) thank you for beeing so patiend ;) I will now copie the geebox 3 via another PC and another cardreader on a knoppix linux |
16:37 | Punkley_Chillin | :) |
16:39 | dv505 | no problem. maybe add a post on the forum with the solution? it seems some others have the same problem |
16:40 | Punkley_Chillin | or add it to the wiki |
16:48 | xxfog | I will! ;-) |
16:49 | xxfog | just added a "first" answer to my post in forum and than when I get geexbox 3 working again, i will write the wiki.. |
16:49 | xxfog | maybe not today, bit than tomorrow |
16:49 | xxfog | one last question |
16:50 | xxfog | do i have to copy the "boot" folder from the tar-gz file as a folder to boot partition or do i just have to copy the files out of boot-folder in the root of the boot partition? |
16:51 | dv505 | doesn't really matter, but I would recommend to place the files directly on the first partition, not in the boot folder |
16:52 | xxfog | okay, i wasn`t sure for that. so all times before i did booth ;-) copied the files directly to root and the whole boot directory too :-( |
16:52 | dv505 | that way, on the system you can mount the boot partition to /boot on the second partition |
16:53 | xxfog | I am glad that the terminal appears right now. that`s half work done.. downloading geebox right now and than i will see what happens... |
16:53 | xxfog | is the "old" sd card (shipped with the cubox) compatible with the new uboot? |
16:54 | xxfog | normally the box should start with it doesn`t it? |
16:56 | dv505 | SD card is not affected by U-Boot, so yes it's compatible. just repartition |
16:59 | xxfog | hmmmmmmmmmm booting with the geexbox 3 sd card ends in dimmed led and a Bootstrap 2.33> in console :-( |
17:04 | dv505 | maybe contact marconn, from the forum thread it appears that was solved (http://www.solid-run.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=742&start=20#p4856) |
17:21 | xxfog | well i have to go home now, i will test it again tomorrow |
17:21 | xxfog | thank your your the patience and great help |
17:21 | xxfog | bye |
