08:21 | ralix | morning |
08:22 | dotarray | hello ralix! |
08:22 | ralix | hello dotarray :) |
08:23 | ralix | What a beautiful morning ... 15/11/2012 09:27The EMS item has handed over to customs processing in Germany. |
08:26 | dotarray | hooray! |
10:03 | cbxbiker61 | ping rabeeh |
13:47 | dotarray | http://www.solid-run.com/projects/48-zoneminder-a-security-solution-on-your-cubox |
14:00 | dbsx | The installer - Just to be contentious. Methinks one should only ever flash uboot once (or maybe twice). The way rabeeh has set up the boot script, there is no point in flashing uboot unless something special comes along. I think it would simply things a lot if uboot flash was taken out of the installer |
14:00 | dbsx | that was simplify |
14:01 | dotarray | that's an interesting point, dbsx. |
14:03 | Punkley_Chillin | I'm just happy someone is using my 12.10 image :) |
14:14 | KaZeR | dbsx, i fully agree. even worse it can cause troubles sometimes (e.g. when you don't know that it will overwrite your tftp settings) |
14:26 | KaZeR | damn my cubox doesn't boot anymore and i don't understand why |
14:26 | KaZeR | it has been sitting unused for around a month |
14:27 | KaZeR | wanted to upgrade the geekbox, tried to use the brand new installer |
14:27 | dotarray | what did you do to it, KaZeR? |
14:27 | KaZeR | dotarray, only forget to hug it daily for some weeks :) |
14:27 | KaZeR | forgot, actually |
14:27 | dotarray | ahh, obviously :) |
14:28 | KaZeR | i tried two different uSD card, none boot from the uSD slot |
14:29 | KaZeR | i wiped the card content, created a 100m fat32 partition (type b), formatted it using mkfs.vfat, and made it active using fdisk |
14:29 | KaZeR | i created an ext3 partition using the rest of the uSD card |
14:29 | KaZeR | extracted the installer content on the 1st partition |
14:29 | KaZeR | if i put the card in uSD slot, nothing happens (it goes to tftpboot) |
14:30 | KaZeR | if i put the card in a uSD reader in the upper usb port, i get 'readin /boot/u-boot.bin, and a bunch of dots on another line |
14:30 | KaZeR | what did i miss? |
14:31 | KaZeR | http://pastie.org/5387441 |
14:31 | KaZeR | eventually i get device NOT ready, request sense returned 06 28 00 |
14:31 | KaZeR | (like 1 minute after the dots stopped to progress |
14:34 | KaZeR | mmm |
14:34 | KaZeR | waiting a bit more made it burn my uboot |
14:41 | KaZeR | nothing new on the screen for 5 minutes, i unplugged it and repluged it, now i get nothing on the console |
14:41 | KaZeR | looks like something went wrong while flashing u-boot :/ |
14:48 | dotarray | hmmm. |
14:48 | dotarray | i'm not sure if anyone's around at the moment more helpful than me :) |
14:48 | dotarray | maybe you should try posting in the forums, and someone like rabeeh can take a look :) |
14:48 | dotarray | (he's the expert, y'know) |
14:48 | KaZeR | yeah i know :) |
14:49 | KaZeR | i'm currently trying to unbrick it using tftp sx and a paper clip |
14:49 | dotarray | good luck! :) |
14:49 | KaZeR | happened to me once or twice at the beginning, because of the automated flashing |
14:49 | KaZeR | thanks :) |
14:52 | KaZeR | anyone here knows which package the 'sx' command belongs to ? |
14:52 | KaZeR | ah! lrzsz |
14:52 | KaZeR | of course :) |
15:02 | KaZeR | yay! |
15:02 | KaZeR | it boots now :) |
15:38 | Kiranos | problems with the webiste? |
16:28 | KaZeR | Kiranos, looks ok here |
16:29 | Kiranos | yea seems to be my isp |
16:29 | Kiranos | stops after a few hops |
17:01 | KaZeR | do you need a specific information? |
17:06 | Kiranos | was going to finally install a new distro on my cubox but need the wiki, figues it was down :P |
17:42 | KaZeR | Kiranos, have you choosen which distro? |
17:43 | Kiranos | geekbox |
17:43 | KaZeR | k. i did it earlier today, it's really easy using the installer |
17:43 | Kiranos | will use it as a replacement for popcornhour |
17:43 | Kiranos | does it allow you to install latest snapshot? |
17:44 | KaZeR | i'm not 100% sure it's the latest |
17:46 | KaZeR | if you want to try the installer you can get it there : http://download.solid-run.com/pub/solidrun/cubox/installer/cubox-installer-0_1.zip |
17:46 | KaZeR | if needed i can mirror it for you |
18:15 | Kiranos | does the installer use hardfp or soft, do you know? |
18:15 | Kiranos | image of geekbox |
18:49 | Kiranos | Using the CuBox installer |
18:49 | Kiranos | The CuBox Installer can install GeeXboX. You need one empty SD card to complete the installation. Follow the instructions for the installer. Choose geexbox-softfp to install GeeXboX. |
18:49 | Kiranos | seems to be only softfp |
18:49 | Kiranos | there |
19:07 | KaZeR | i guess it will be updated soon |
19:07 | KaZeR | hey tomlohave ! |
19:08 | tomlohave | yep |
19:08 | tomlohave | preparing the diner ;-) |

19:09 | KaZeR | :) |
19:09 | tomlohave | wrong window |
19:09 | tomlohave | sorry my friens |
19:40 | dv_ | hardfp vs. softp, which one is less problematic with the cubox in general? |
19:40 | dv_ | also regarding 3d/video drivers |
20:08 | KaZeR | dv_, i believe (but not being an expert) that most issues have been solved in the last 15 days |
20:08 | dv_ | there is still the "illegal instruction" one |
20:50 | Kiranos | dv_: what issue is that? |
22:13 | Kiranos | Waiting for storage device(s) to settle before scanning... |
22:13 | Kiranos | scanning bus for storage devices... |
22:13 | Kiranos | how long should this take on uboot? |
22:13 | Kiranos | trying to upgrade uboot |
22:14 | Kiranos | now went |
22:14 | Kiranos | scanning bus for storage devices... Device NOT ready |
22:14 | Kiranos | Request Sense returned 06 28 00 |
22:14 | Kiranos | 1 Storage Device(s) found |
22:14 | Kiranos | Loading file "/boot.scr" from usb device 0 |
22:21 | KaZeR | Kiranos, i had the exact same issue earlier today |
22:21 | KaZeR | took more than 10 minutes |
22:21 | KaZeR | do not interrupt it, it broke my uboot |
22:24 | Kiranos | http://pastebin.com/1Xu75nh6 |
22:24 | Kiranos | a bunch of these are my current status |
22:24 | Kiranos | I'll let it run |
22:24 | Kiranos | but I'm seeing a lot of errors :) |
22:29 | KaZeR | indeed |
22:35 | KaZeR | eventually i had to flash mine using the recovery mode |
22:35 | KaZeR | good luck :) |
22:35 | Kiranos | Retry count exceeded; starting again |
22:35 | Kiranos | egiga0 no link |
22:35 | Kiranos | Using egiga0 device |
22:35 | Kiranos | TFTP from server 192.168.15.100; our IP address is 192.168.15.223 |
22:35 | Kiranos | dont think it will flash :) |
22:35 | KaZeR | doesn't look so :) |
22:35 | KaZeR | it didn't even boot from your uSD card |
22:36 | Kiranos | no have no microsd just the usb |
22:36 | Kiranos | just want the new uboot |
22:36 | KaZeR | have to go afk. if needed i can maybe help you (at least try ;) ) in ~15 hours |
22:36 | Kiranos | will try another usbstick |
22:38 | KaZeR | don't forget to use the upper usb port only, i believe it won't boot on the second one |
22:38 | KaZeR | afk |
22:50 | cbxbiker61 | my firewall machine's power brick failed the other night, so i set out to swap the 20watt i686 machine with the 4 watt cubox |
22:51 | cbxbiker61 | the problem with the cubox as a router though was that it would lockup as soon as it had some routing traffic |
22:52 | cbxbiker61 | so i wired up a new power brick for my old i686 machine and put it back into service |
22:53 | cbxbiker61 | now that i have internet back online, i was able to locate the problem with the 3.5 kernels and routing on cubox |
22:53 | Punkley_Chillin | im guessing it was system tuning? |
22:53 | cbxbiker61 | http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux%2Fkernel%2Fgit%2Ftorvalds%2Flinux.git&a=search&h=HEAD&st=commit&s=remove+skb+recycling |
22:54 | Punkley_Chillin | argh |
22:54 | cbxbiker61 | it was a bug in network code, affecting certain nics |
22:55 | Punkley_Chillin | maybe u should get that put in the cubox 3.5.7 git |
22:56 | cbxbiker61 | i'm not sure who is maintaining the 3.5.7 git tree, i don't have write access |
22:56 | Punkley_Chillin | post it in the forum |
22:56 | cbxbiker61 | i do have my own series of kernels/patches though |
22:56 | Punkley_Chillin | too true :) |
22:57 | Punkley_Chillin | I dont :) |
22:58 | Punkley_Chillin | i want to try to get a 12.10 desktop build going. |
22:58 | Punkley_Chillin | i need to find time to make new debian packages for it. |
22:58 | Punkley_Chillin | oh for more time. |
22:59 | cbxbiker61 | i figured i'd take a look at getting the 3.5.x patches migrated to 3.6.x, we're based on the wrong kernel version for long term support |
23:00 | Punkley_Chillin | agreed (although I still think it should be 2.6 because anything over that is just wierd (shows my age) |
23:00 | Punkley_Chillin | :) |
23:02 | Kiranos | burned new uboot within a couple of seconds with a new usbstick |
23:20 | Punkley_Chillin | w00t |
