02:44 | TheOgrable | Hi, I'm wondering : what is the Cubox-i2 ultra |
02:44 | TheOgrable | because on the product page there's no such things |
02:44 | TheOgrable | http://cubox-i.com/products/ |
03:00 | Forrest-- | it used to be there |
03:01 | Forrest-- | looks like they removed it...prpobably anyone who wanted the i2 opted for the i4, the price point was only 20$ more when I ordered |
03:02 | Forrest-- | iirc it was basically identical to the i4 pro but with the dualcore processor |
03:19 | TheOgrable | ok thx for the answer |
03:20 | TheOgrable | I'll go with the i2 then |
03:20 | TheOgrable | the i4 is too expansive for my budget unfortunatly |
11:52 | dtroy | Hi guys, as I understand from the forum the cubox-i is not google certified. I was just wondering if anyone here knew why? Is it an hardware issue ? From what I read it doesn't cost any money to get it certified, you just have to run some tests on the device and send them to Google |
11:54 | jnettlet | dtroy, it is actually more a problem with the way Google does certifications more than anything. |
11:55 | dtroy | Hi jnettlet, would you care to elaborate ? |
11:56 | jnettlet | because google's certification process is so geared towards smartphones many of the tests do not apply to an android appliance, so they fail. Like GPS certification and not touch support. |
11:57 | jnettlet | A group backed by Rockchip has petitioned google to make changes but I have not heard of any progress yet. |
11:58 | jnettlet | The way that many companies get around it is to pay the large (relatively) sum of money to become a google partner. That is usually not an option for smaller shops. |
12:00 | dtroy | Oh OK, I didn't realize that was the case because The Android Compatibility Definition Document (CDD) specify thing like GPS are optional and not a requirement to get certified |
12:01 | jnettlet | dtroy, yes they are, but then you don't get certified for location services and very few of the apps in the playstore are available to your device. |
12:01 | jnettlet | that is the problem with their "optional" certifications |
12:01 | jnettlet | you are better off plugging in a usb gps and certify it that way in order to get qualified. |
12:02 | jnettlet | also the smaller you are the longer you sit in Google's queue. I am pretty sure a certification request has been sent in. Who knows when google may get around to looking at it. |
12:03 | jnettle | 12:03 * jnettlet & |
12:06 | dtroy | Is that in order to get a google play license ? because the FAQ says the certification itself should be automated: |
12:06 | dtroy | How long does compatibility take? The process is automated. The Compatibility Test Suite generates a report that can be provided to Google to verify compatibility. Eventually we intend to provide self-service tools to upload these reports to a public database. |
12:06 | dtroy | Apologies for the many questions, I just want to get a better understand of what we can do with the device |
12:07 | dtroy | and what are the limitations |
13:27 | jnettlet | dtroy, the compatibility test suite is automated, but once you upload the results they have to be reviewed manually by google |
13:28 | jnettlet | it is only truly automated if you pass all the tests, which no set top top box generally will |
13:29 | dtroy | Oh OK. I see.Thanks for the clarification jnettlet |
13:33 | dtroy | Sounds a lot easier on their FAQ / Website |
13:40 | file | many things do in life |
13:50 | jnettlet | dtroy, it always does. It is something that SolidRun is continuing to pursue it is just a longer process for their types of devices. |
18:52 | Hoof | My cubox v1 got bricked using the latest installer. So I need to reflash the SPI. I only have a mac at my disposal and I need the "sx" command. It is not installed. It seems I need a package named lrzsz. How do I get a hold of that? Does it really require me to install xcode? Is there any other way to reflash? :/ |

23:10 | sraue | jnettlet, just found http://server.vijge.net/static/cubox/irclog/201312/cubox-20131221.html you still know what was the issue with "ERROR: VpuOpen - VPU load failed with error code 1." |
23:11 | sraue | updated my own distro to kernel 3.10, and all needed libs and firmware to 3.10.17/9 too |
