| 02:25 | Tenkawa | hi all |
| 02:26 | Tenkawa | which kernel driver and firmware do I need in the stock 3.14.x kernel to use the wireless adapter? |
| 02:27 | Tenkawa | or is it even possible (the ethernet works really well) |
| 02:27 | Tenkawa | cubox-i dual |
| 17:38 | Tenkawa | hi all |
| 19:59 | Tenkawa | Anyone got both a -i dual(esata version) and quad ? |
| 20:00 | Tenkawa | how much aggregate performance difference have you all noticed with the quad vs dual |
| 20:08 | jnettlet | Tenkawa, it all depends on the workload. |
| 20:09 | jnettlet | the GPU and memory bandwidth is the same. the Quad helps if you are running multiple simultaneous applications like for a desktop, while for dedicated media they should be relatively similar in performance |
| 20:11 | Tenkawa | jnettlet: yeah i know the technical #'s.. I just wondered about usage feel |
| 20:11 | Tenkawa | jnettlet: I actually use mine headless so the gpu doesnt mean much to me.. |
| 20:11 | jnettlet | Tenkawa, like I said it depends what you plan to use it for. |
| 20:11 | Tenkawa | true |
| 20:12 | jnettlet | and the difference will change as we optimize the drivers and desktop software more. |
| 20:12 | Tenkawa | so far the dual works great as a general purpose server.. got a feeling though if I start using more thread concurrecy I might want the quad though |
| 20:13 | Tenkawa | jnettlet: I'm following/using the mainstream kernel so I'm going to miss out on a lot of the specific updates |
| 20:13 | jnettlet | I would agree. The quad allows twice as many threads to get use a full cpu if needed. |
| 20:13 | Tenkawa | however so far I am impressed |
| 20:14 | jnettlet | Tenkawa, we are trying to get as much upstream as possible. For other things I am working on a vendor-upstream kernel that will contain some specifics |
| 20:14 | Tenkawa | my other i.mx6 quad has too many heat problems |
| 20:14 | jnettlet | many do |
| 20:14 | Tenkawa | yep |
| 20:14 | jnettlet | the thermals of the Cubox-i are impressive |
| 20:14 | Tenkawa | indeed.. I have been very impressed with the case design |
| 20:15 | Tenkawa | I'm curious to see how the hummingboard is going to go though |
| 20:15 | Tenkawa | being able to run e-sata/ssd has made this box even more fun :) |
| 20:15 | jnettlet | The HB-Pro supports mSata |
| 20:16 | jnettlet | it also has a mPCIe expansion which you could run a PCI express ssd from. |
| 20:16 | Tenkawa | nice |
| 20:17 | jnettlet | the HB Pro is pretty amazing. All the connectors and interfaces on that little board is pretty nuts |
| 20:17 | jnettlet | My plan is to gut my toshiba netbook and stuff a HB-Pro in there |
| 20:17 | Tenkawa | will be interesting to see price/availability |
| 20:18 | jnettle | 20:18 * jnettlet agrees |
| 20:19 | Tenkawa | I'm just waiting for ARM servers to start becoming a realistic reality |
| 20:19 | Tenkawa | arm is about all I use |
| 20:19 | Tenkawa | I'm typing from an arm notebook |
| 20:19 | jnettlet | which one? The AC100? |
| 20:20 | Tenkawa | nah.. samsung chromebook |
| 20:20 | Tenkawa | running debian |
| 20:20 | Tenkawa | (unless thats its model #) |
| 20:20 | jnettlet | I may go for Chromebook 2 for my wife. |
| 20:20 | Tenkawa | yeah I'm going to get one |
| 20:20 | Tenkawa | I really like this one |
| 20:20 | jnettlet | nope the AC100 was an early Toshiba with a Tegra2 processor in it |
| 20:21 | Tenkawa | ahh |
| 20:21 | Tenkawa | I like tegras too |
| 20:21 | jnettlet | I also have a bunch of XO laptops that are ARM |
| 20:21 | Tenkawa | tegra, exynos, and i.mx are my primary ones |
| 20:22 | jnettlet | I have a bit of all of it. Actually looking around everything but Qualcomm. Not a single one |
| 20:22 | Tenkawa | hey... do you know which firmware blob imx-sdma needs |
| 20:22 | Tenkawa | ? |
| 20:23 | Tenkawa | I keep getting load failed -2 then firmware not found |
| 20:23 | Tenkawa | (might be upstream kernel related I am thinking however wasnt sure) |
| 20:24 | Tenkawa | cant find the right one to get the onboard wifi working either |
| 20:31 | jnettlet | Tenkawa, upstream wifi has some issues right now. I am working on them |
| 20:31 | Tenkawa | ahhh |
| 20:31 | Tenkawa | ok.. I'll continue to use wired for now then |
| 20:31 | jnettlet | yeah, the wifi works but there can be some signal issues. we will track them down |
| 20:32 | Tenkawa | heeheh I hear ya |
| 20:32 | Tenkawa | if I might ask.. you with SR? |
| 20:33 | jnettlet | the imx-sdma firmware is irrelevant for upstream right now. The engine works but the firmware optimizes dma transfers that aren't committed upstream yet. |
| 20:33 | jnettlet | sorry to be the bearer of bad news |
| 20:33 | Tenkawa | ahhhh |
| 20:33 | Tenkawa | oh well |
| 20:33 | Tenkawa | heehee |
| 20:33 | Tenkawa | no big deal |
| 20:33 | Tenkawa | not for my experimenting/hobbyist purposes |
| 20:33 | jnettlet | I believe rmk is working on integrating some of the upstream hdmi work with the sdma engine |
| 20:40 | Tenkawa | cheers all |
