10:26 randomnickname hello
10:27 randomnickname i would like to know if the SR-uSOM-MX6-C1000QM-D2048-GE (MicroSOM i4Pro) is provided with a heatsink, when ordered together with HummingBoard Carrier Pro $36?
11:29 jnettlet randomnickname, yes, all the microsom's now come with the red heat sink
11:31 randomnickname_ jnettlet: thank you!
11:31 randomnickname_ same heatsink as the i2-ex?
11:32 jnettlet randomnickname, yes, there is only one heatsink
11:32 randomnickname_ will it come pre-attached on the processor module, or packaged separately?
11:32 randomnickname_ ok, cool, i am looking forward to using proper debian on arm!
11:32 jnettlet pre-attached
11:32 randomnickname_ raspberry pi is so slow
11:33 randomnickname_ it would be better if the wiki was updated, though
11:34 jnettlet we are working on a custom repo that has certain packages optimized for the iMX6 hardware. The announcement of availability should be out within the month
11:34 randomnickname_ it still says that a custom heatsink is required for the i4 pro - i'm sure i'm not the only one who was wondering...
11:34 jnettlet okay thanks will pass it along
11:34 jnettlet randomnickname_, oh you are buying everything as separate pieces?
11:35 jnettlet I will need to check how that is packaged one second.
11:35 randomnickname_ i was doing as instructed by the wiki, i4 pro SoM with the hummingboard carrier
11:37 randomnickname_ http://www.solid-run.com/wiki/MicroSOM_i4
11:37 randomnickname_ "To obtain the i4Pro together with a HummingBoard carrier board, order from the i4Pro Store Page, select the HummingBoard Carrier Pro from the carrier list, and related accessories. When ordered in this way, this MicroSOM will need a custom heatsink for heat dissipation."
11:37 jnettlet I just asked for clarification. I know all the pre-configured HBs come with the heatsink. Although as pieces it might need to be added on as everything else is in pieces.
11:38 randomnickname_ yeah, i understand
11:38 randomnickname_ the documentation is unclear in this regard
11:39 jnettlet yes, and that was written before SolidRun started shipping all HBs with heatsinks. Originally only the HBi2eX shipped with it. However we have optimized the software so much that at this point even the single and dual-lite variants can hit the thermal shutdown limit without a heatsink
11:39 randomnickname_ ah, okay
11:39 jnettlet if you can hangout on irc for a bit I will ping you when I get an answer
11:40 randomnickname_ yeah, that's no problem
11:40 randomnickname_ thanks so much
11:40 randomnickname_ i don't mind if everything comes separate, i can do some basic assembly
11:41 randomnickname_ but sourcing a heatsink is obviously going to be out of the question!
11:42 randomnickname_ this is the case i have in mind for it: http://www.adafruit.com/product/859
11:42 randomnickname_ hopefully, it will look good on my desk!
11:43 jnettlet okay just an fyi, the CarrierPro can have some fit issues with some cases because it has the mSATA port on the bottom.
11:44 jnettlet generally you can just snip out some of the plastic and everything fits
11:45 jnettlet that one looks like it should be fine. it is a flat bottom and there appears to be plenty of clearance
11:47 randomnickname_ so, i could have http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147316 in the slot and (let's say) a mPCI-e wifi card in the top mpci-e slot?
11:48 jnettlet yes if you don't want to use the onboard wifi for some reason
11:50 randomnickname_ this will be an expensive toy
11:51 randomnickname_ hopefully it'll be okay with an iPad charger with all that power under the hoob
11:51 randomnickname_ hood*
11:53 randomnickname_ would you happen to know if the board supports the linux framebuffer so i can have 4 pretty penguins and a nice text console without X?
11:53 randomnickname_ a youtube video of it booting debian appears to have the board displaying bootup kernel messages in something akin to 80x25 PC textmode
11:54 cbxbiker61 i'm going to get a 3d printer so i can print up cool cases for hummingboard
11:55 randomnickname_ great
11:55 Humpelstilzchen randomnickname_: it has even xbmc on framebuffer
11:55 randomnickname_ how much money are you going to sink into it?
11:55 cbxbiker61 my 3d printer buyer's guide get's here tomorrow
11:56 cbxbiker61 hard to say, i need to understand the options
11:56 randomnickname_ Humpelstilzchen: I'm afraid i don't know much about XBMC :(
11:56 randomnickname_ i'll be happy if it can run vlc well
11:56 randomnickname_ i have many 1080p mkv's
11:56 cbxbiker61 i think i want something that can do at least 6"
11:56 Humpelstilzchen randomnickname_: probably not vlc, but gstreamer works
11:57 randomnickname_ i'll have to see how well i can get acquainted with this linux thing
11:57 cbxbiker61 i think i also want the option to do higher quality plastic
11:57 randomnickname_ on a faaaaaast machine
11:58 randomnickname_ else it'll end up being a plain ol' device for me to interface with serial consoles
11:58 jnettlet randomnickname_, the iPad charger is generally a bad choice because they have iProprietary stuff in them so you need a special circuitry to get them to do the high speed charging.
11:58 jnettlet that is if it is a real Apple one.
11:58 randomnickname_ oh dear god :(
11:58 randomnickname_ i'll have to buy an ugly, black thing
11:58 randomnickname_ thanks for the heads up
11:59 cbxbiker61 http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:47776 , that's a pretty cool looking case, we should be able to mod it for hummingborad and solid-run logo
11:59 randomnickname_ thanks for making this rpi-form factor computer so i could use that cool case
11:59 randomnickname_ i have a big thing for see-through cases
12:00 randomnickname_ i bought a beaglebone black and the adafruit BBB case on a whim yesterday
12:00 randomnickname_ cbxbiker61: i can't say i like that thing too much
12:00 jnettlet I bought a handful of pICE cases since they were going out of business. I need to mod them up to work with my HBs
12:00 randomnickname_ too much exposed parts
12:00 cbxbiker61 i think we should do a case that has room for stackable hats
12:01 jnettlet they are hefty little suckers
12:01 randomnickname_ jnettlet: kudos to the heatsink being red
12:02 randomnickname_ hardly find things with cool colors these days
12:02 cbxbiker61 the coolest cpu cooler's that i remember where the coolers they used on the the dec alpha chips
12:03 randomnickname_ how is the android support on the hummingboard?
12:03 randomnickname_ how well is graphics acceleration supported, if it even is? :)
12:03 jnettlet it getting better every day.
12:05 jnettlet android 4.4.3 is running on it. I will probably start looking at lollipop later next week.
12:06 randomnickname_ cbxbiker61: i happen to have an alpha machine kicking around
12:06 cbxbiker61 does it have the spikey cpu cooler?
12:06 randomnickname_ i have never seen bolted-on heatsinks on any other kind of processor
12:08 randomnickname_ as a loyal apple user, i dislike samsung, so no odroid for me
12:10 cbxbiker61 on that case i was looking at, they want a build surface of 7x7x3, so i guess that req gets added to my desirable list in a 3d printer
12:10 randomnickname_ oh, you have't bought a 3d printer yet?
12:11 cbxbiker61 i want to look at the ultimate buyer's guide first
12:11 cbxbiker61 it only take a few days to get a printer, so i want to make an informed decision
12:13 cbxbiker61 the normal range for 3d printers is $350-$3000, i'll probably be at about $600-$700
12:15 randomnickname_ not cheap at all
12:16 cbxbiker61 the $350 model that i looked at does 4"x4"x4"
12:17 cbxbiker61 a critical criteria for me is good open source support
13:37 randomnickname hey jnettlet, you worked on the u-boot for hummingboard? :)
13:39 jnettlet randomnickname, yep and the kernel
13:39 randomnickname wow, that's so cool
13:41 randomnickname would you happen to have any idea where the U-boot logo is defined for the cubox/hummingboard?
13:44 jnettlet tools/logos/
13:45 randomnickname ah, there it is
13:45 randomnickname shame on me for not reading the comments :)
13:45 randomnickname thank you so much! i hope i'll be able to compile it all
13:46 randomnickname when I buy a board, of course
13:46 randomnickname now, i can't wait to throw my money at solidrun
13:48 randomnickname unlike the linux kernel source tree, logos for Uboot seem to be scattered all over
15:40 randomnickname jnettlet: does the hummingboard u-boot output through hdmi only, or can it be configured to do either hdmi or serial?
15:41 jnettlet randomnickname, right now it does both by default. I still need to add a patch so it only enables hdmi output if it detects the output
15:43 randomnickname sounds reasonable
15:44 randomnickname let's say the board is connected to both hdmi and serial, will what i type on-screen appear magically on serial and vice versa?
15:45 jnettlet in uboot yes, the console is multiplexed
15:52 randomnickname thank you
19:42 topi` which module do I need to modprobe to get the wifi working on hummingboard?
19:43 topi` at least there's a small wifi antenna hooked up to something in the microSOM
19:43 topi` but lsusb doesn't seem to contain anything wifi-related
19:44 topi` I'm running jnettlet's 3.14.14+, freshly cloned
19:56 jnettlet topi`, you probably need the bcm4330 firmware. the module is brcmfmac
21:01 R0nd anyone running recent versions of kodi?
21:01 R0nd I'm getting
21:01 R0nd [WARN] VPU mutex couldn't be locked before timeout expired or get lock failure
21:01 R0nd [ERR] Error: Unable to get mutex
21:01 R0nd [ERR] IOSystemInit() failure.
21:01 R0nd when trying to play any video, even ones that worked fine before
