16:58 ngochai Hi guys, I'm thinking of getting a i4pro but after reading this thread http://www.solid-run.com/community/topic1300-10.html, I'm confused, is the heat sink still a problem now?
16:59 ngochai if I buy a carrier and a quad core SoM, does Solidrun provide a heat sink for it?
17:21 jnettlet ngochai, it is recommended to use a heatsink and yes it is included with the SOM
17:48 ngochai jnettlet, so the quadcore SoM works fine with the provided heatsink (as the dual core)? I don't have to worry about making my own heatsink
17:48 ngochai ?
17:51 jnettlet ngochai, yes. If you push it really hard it will start to clock down the cpu-speed but really pushing all four cores and the gpu the cpu-speed tends to level out at 1ghz and occasionally dipping down to 800Mhz
17:52 jnettlet but this is pushing everything as hard as possible for extended periods of time.
18:00 topi` jnettlet: is it possible to power down (e.g. disable the voltage rails) the GPU in order to save some power?
18:01 topi` we probably want to run Xorg, but on the framebuffer, without any accel
18:01 jnettlet topi`, if you aren't using the GPU it powers itself down
18:01 topi` ok
18:01 jnettlet if the GPU doesn't do anything for 300ms it clocks off and power gates
18:02 jnettlet that is per GPU core as well
18:04 jnettlet but the big things to generate heat are crank on the 3D core and run NEON on all the cores.
18:04 jnettlet that heats things up real fast
18:32 Exaga and pizza straight from the oven
19:15 ngochai thank you jnettlet, I will order one to try out
19:16 ngochai I keep getting is 12.847370] Unhandled fault: external abort on non-linefetch (0x018) at 0x76dfe000 in my dmesg (hummingboard i2ex, kernel 3.14.14+) is this something to worry about?
19:16 ngochai I keep getting *this
19:36 Exaga ngochai: trying to read memory that is not mapped perhaps?
19:57 ngochai Exaga, is this a kernel/module bug or this is user space thing?
20:36 Exaga what does the unhandled fault relate to?
20:56 ngochai Exaga, it just shows up out of the blue in my dmesg
21:00 Exaga what comes before and goes after it?
21:12 ngochai Exaga, dmesg http://pastebin.com/8wKddTCq it's at the end
21:16 Exaga looks like one of your video modes is causing it
21:22 ngochai Exaga, it still happens after I unplug HDMI cable: http://pastebin.com/4h9wxZc9
21:22 Exaga to be honest, unless it's causing problems, I would ignore it :>
21:23 ngochai Exaga, alright
21:23 ngochai thanks
21:23 Exaga no worries my friend :>
