09:22 | Ke> | ok so, my 10G ethernets do not seem to work on mcbin, is this expected behaviour? |
09:32 | Ke> | this is debian buster 4.15 kernel obviously |
09:32 | Ke> | suihkulokki? |
09:45 | jnettlet[m]> | topi`: ping. What is the name of your serial console program? |
13:39 | suihkulokki> | Ke: haven't tried out |
13:39 | Ke> | suihkulokki: haven't even tried the interface at 1G speeds? |
13:39 | Ke> | mcbin is my only 10G device anyway |
13:42 | suihkulokki> | Ke: 1G works fine |
13:43 | Ke> | what atf/uefi? |
13:44 | suihkulokki> | the ones I published |
13:44 | suihkulokki> | with not working, you mean you are plugging the 10G interface to what? |
13:45 | Ke> | yeah, I have my desktop with 1G nic connected to the 10G interface |
13:45 | Ke> | and then interface just shows it's down even though the leds light up |
13:49 | suihkulokki> | I have no idea if the mcbin 10GB interfaces are capable of 1GB speeds |
13:51 | Ke> | hmm |
13:52 | Ke> | jnettlet[m] ^^ ? |
13:53 | Ke> | well at least now the routing seems to be stable |
14:00 | topi`> | jnettlet[m]: i'm using minicom |
14:01 | topi`> | I'm writing my own DHCP client from scratch, can anyone advice me why I cannot send to a UDP socket at 255.255.255.255 port 68 if I haven't set up an IPv4 address on eth0? |
14:02 | topi`> | I tried "ip link set up eth0", no avail |
14:02 | topi`> | I'll go and ask on #networking |
14:06 | jnettlet[m]> | topi`: ah it must have been someone else. I will check my logs |
14:07 | Ke> | jnettlet[m]: you don't mean my watchdog hack that uses serial port? |
14:08 | jnettlet[m]> | Ke: suihkulokki well the SFP+ standard supports both 10Gbps and 1Gbps for backward compatibility. I had a question regarding the phys for the copper ports and looked at the documentation. They support 1, 2.5, 5, and 10Gbps but the driver can't negotiate that yet. It is on my list. |
14:08 | Ke> | jnettlet[m]: ie. my problem was expected |
14:08 | jnettlet[m]> | checking because Artox has a new Ryzen board that supports 5Gbps |
14:08 | jnettlet[m]> | so we have a test case. |
14:09 | Ke> | I guess they also support 10M and 100M ? |
14:11 | topi`> | dang, I cannot use normal UDP sockets if I haven't already assigned an IP address for the interface... |
14:13 | vpeter> | topi`: use raw sockets then? |
14:21 | suihkulokki> | jnettlet[m]: thanks, I had really no idea how networking > 1GB works |
14:21 | suihkulokki> | I've been told using SFP+ DAC cables is cheapeast way get started, should get one |
14:37 | jnettlet[m]> | suihkulokki: yep I have a couple of those. If you want to connect to a PC then I recommend looking on ebay. You can find some decent mellanox based sfp+ pcie cards that come with DAC cables. Otherwise take a look at fiberstore fs.com their white label 10Gbps mm fiber modules and cables work well at a decent price. |
14:39 | jnettlet[m]> | Their DAC cables. https://www.fs.com/c/10g-sfp-dac-1114 |
14:46 | Ke> | heh with ATF-17.08 the google play music does not even break when rebooting |
14:52 | Ke> | there is definitely some magic in accessing that sata ssd connected to my marvell pcie sata controller |

15:08 | jnettlet[m]> | I don't think this channel cares |
15:09 | Ke> | yay, the mcbin native sata ports like me |
15:09 | Ke> | problem is, there are only 3 |
15:19 | Ke> | though only this ssd seems to be crashy there |
